Special UPD Product Registration

Please fill out this form if you have a software product that will be going into UPD (fnkits) and will be required to be configured differently than the standard UPD product. For example, if your product will be a Proprietary product, a Fermitools product, a product that can only be distributed onsite at Fermilab, etc.. This form should be filled out prior to adding your product to UPD.

After this form has been submitted and your product has been registered as one of the special products, you will receive email telling you that you can proceed and add it to fnkits in the usual way. You will not have to use any special options; your product will be configured to handle any special requirements automatically.

UNIX Product Support (UPS) is a software support toolkit developed here at Fermilab for the management and access of software products on local systems by the system administrators and users. It was also designed to facilitate the product distribution and configuration management tasks of the product providers.

UNIX Product Distribution (UPD) is a companion product to UPS, and provides the functionality for distributing products to a local system from either a live or an archive database on a remote host.

Currently, the categories of special products in UPD include:

   Fermitools Fermitools product
   Proprietary Proprietary product
FNALonly ftp allowed to fnal domain only
USonly ftp allowed to .gov or .mil domains only

Many of the locally-developed software packages that we support (and which are generally not available elsewhere) are available through the public Fermitools program.

Proprietary products are products for which Fermilab has a limited number of licenses. Anybody who wants the product will need to register with the Computing Division so that their machine is added to the list of machines who are using a license. They will then be given a username and password to obtain the product.

FNALonly products are products for which Fermilab has a site license, but which cannot be distributed beyond our site. People in the fnal.gov domain are able to get the product from fnkits, but all others will be restricted.

USonly products are products that are illegal to distribute to other countries. Therefore, only systems in .gov or .mil domains will be allowed to download the software.
